Christian Entrepreneurship
Christian entrepreneurship is both a privilege and a responsibility. It is a privilege because God has entrusted a business to us. It is a responsibility because we need to run it to the best of our ability while bringing honor and glory to Him.
What exactly does Christian entrepreneurship look like? Well, it is obviously an entrepreneur - someone who owns a business - but it's more than that. It is someone who runs their business based on the principles found in the Bible. Principles of honesty and acting ethically need to be apparent. The business owner takes the high road when dealing with customers and employees. They are striving to bring glory to God by the way they run their business.
Christian entrepreneurs should offer products and services that are of high quality. Their reputation should be one that is highly regarded and respected. In everything they do, they want others to see God's reflection in them.
Entrepreneurship should not be all about money and wealth. Obviously, we run a business to make money, otherwise it would be considered a ministry or charity. However, as a Christian who runs a business, we should think of more than the bottom line of how much we make. We should think of running our business in light of how much we can help others through our business, whether that be monetarily or otherwise.
We need to also be concerned with how God is being represented through our business. When others look at us, do they see someone who is working to glorify God? Or do they see someone who is just working for themselves to see how much can be made? Please understand, I believe God wants us to earn good money with our businesses. But it's a matter of priority. What is our main objective in running a business? Remember Colossians 3:23 "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men." We have to remember that we are working for God and to please Him. That will cause us to also treat others in a way that is respectful and helpful.
You are most likely familiar with the expression "WWJD" (What would Jesus do?). That should be the question every entrepreneur asks when dealing with business situations. When we strive to run our businesses the way Jesus would, we are definitely on the right track.
